Surrey, BC’s Tru North is carving his own lane towards hip-hop stardom with a flow that marries Punjabi bravado and West Coast rhymes spitting the only thing that matters—his truth. Tru arrived on the scene in the late 2010s after producing for fellow Surrey lyricist Chani Nattan 's tracks Watch Your Mouth and Soldier. The young MC then kicked off his career with a series of singles that found significant success. Through those he became a key face of a new wave of not only Surrey but Punjabi Rap. This eventually culminated in 2020's Surrey Side Sippin mixtape. With contributions from Straight Bank, Desi Ma, and the camp’s own Newton Baby, the tape demonstrated the rapper's versatility, compiling high-octane brashness, sing-rap street tales, and even soul bearing personal reflections. He returned in 2021 with a slew of singles continuing into 2022 that included cult favorites like Kutthroat, Rooh, Lil Billo and more. Once again to demonstrating his vocal dexterity, catalog of flows, and iconic devil-may-care music videos. 2023 saw Tru's highest musical output yet, dropping collaborative EPs with Adphetti and 2YUNG. And tracks like Bmaari and Candy Dukaan defining the year. Multi-faceted rhythms heavy on references to struggle, drugs, and money have garnered the rapper over 1M streams and views, and cosigns from the likes of BBC’s Bobby Friction. With innumerable styles and unfiltered vision, one thing you can expect from Tru North is to not know what to expect.
