Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Walkman (born Kevin Reilly) is best known in the hip-hop community for his high-powered lyricism, dense verses, and catchy hooks. Using fluid imagery and multi-syllable word play his sound is new and refreshing while still paying homage to the old school hip-hop roots. However, his creative prowess certainly doesn’t stop in the booth. While his music is often genuine and complex, his videos are...well...freaking hilarious. Using cinematic techniques he allows the viewer a glimpse into the imaginative world of Walkman. Walkman credits his rap career to his early exposure to music. At a young age his father, a local DJ, introduced him to everything from The Gap Band and Roger Troutman to Rakim, Slick Rick, and Redman. These old school acts would go on to become some of his major influences. Spending most of his early years teaming up with other aspiring artists and making collaborative mixtapes, he decided that he would continue his venture as a solo act, and began recording independently. Walkman’s solo debut album "15229" was released in late 2017 and was received with high praise among his peers. The album received 2017's local album of the Year from Pgh blog Unfiltered Rap Jury, and ultimately Hip Hop Artist of the Year for the Pittsburgh City Paper. He is currently back in the studio working on his second solo album that is expected to release in late 2019.
