Biography

“A musical master and a force to be reckoned with” - Global Rhythm “He professes a sound and vision unlike any other” - All About Jazz The prolific, critically acclaimed, and award-winning composer, producer, and sound artist, Raz Mesinai (aka Badawi, The Ghost Producer), has been consistently creating genre-bending albums for over thirty years. Starting in the late 80s, Mesinai began releasing his compositions on cassette under the pseudonyms Psy Co., Ruff Riddim Productions, Badawi, Sub Dub (with co-producer John "Dubs" Ward), The Bedouin, X-On, Raz Mesinai and "Ghost Producer" for such iconic labels as ROIR, Tzadik, Asphodel and others. In the mid '90s, his project Sub Dub was credited as the inventor of "Illbient" (a subgenre from NYC that inspired the "Dub Step" scene in the UK over a decade later). Mesinai has remained however determined to be unclassifiable yet his work can be found in everything from film scores for Ridley Scott and Daren Aronofsky to music from Contemporary Classical to Hip Hop, Dancehall, Dub, and Doom Metal. "Raz Mesinai's music is unique, built on almost chemical combinations of finely layered, barely tangible, and powerfully evocative elements. The amazing thing to me is how universal the emotional effect of this approach proves to be" - Osvaldo Golijov
