Biography

Under the auspices of Future Cut, Tunde Babalola & Darren Lewis found heavy rotation in the digital underground from 1998 - 2004. The duo met in the Manchester club scene and immediately had an explosive relationship, recording and DJing together across Europe. With the incorporation of jazz, funk, and the energetic traditions of drum'n'bass, they created a distinct voice within the drum'n'bass community. Future Cut released their first self-deemed "ghetto style" drum'n'bass recording, 20/20, on Renegade Hardware implant TOV (Trouble on Vinyl) in April of 2000 and subsequently released material on all three factions of the TOV family. Their popularity in the underground was partially due to their ability to overcome the stereotypical monotony of drum'n'bass and use driving, distorted beats and intuitive bass-driven harmonic forms. Away from the TOV camp, they have recorded for drum and bass heavyweight labels including Metalheadz, V Recordings & Infrared Recordings. In early 2002 they formed UN-CUT alongside Mancunian vocalist Jenna G and shortly after signed to Warner Brothers Records. Their vocal drum and bass anthem "Midnight" became an instant classic, still a mainstay of the scene to this day. A move away from dnb saw them producing and writing for artists such as Lily Allen, Rihanna & Shakira amongst others.
