At age 2, Garrette moved to Henderson, NC where he resided in the projects known as Cedarhurst Apartments. “Growing up in the projects of Henderson, NC was not only tough for a kid but the parents as well.” My mom was a single parent working 3 jobs to raising 3 kids ensuring we had everything we needed”. Said BigMoShawty. During those times in Cedarhurst, it was a drug and gang infested neighborhood. Every time you go outside, it was either a fight, the dope boys sitting on the steps gambling, or fiends walking up and down the street. By age 11, BigMoShawty took and used music as his getaway. He started out writing poems, which later turned into music. “I remember me and my homies use to be in the streets freestyling all night just for fun, who knew it was our ticket out.” His music influences are North Carolina’s own and Former DTP Artists Small World, Brolic D aka Poppa Bandz, and Perfect Harmany, group also known as NorfClk.
