Known for their eclectic mix of genres, Desmond Cheese seamlessly blends elements of hip-hop, jazz, soul, and electronic music, creating a unique and mellow soundscape that has garnered them a dedicated following. Formed in 2010, the band is comprises producer Mak Cheese, multi-instrumentalist Desmond Bagely and Rohan Seekers (from Life on Earth) on keys. The band have been making music in Meanjin (Brisbane, Australia) since 2010, when they released their first album, ‘Fame & Fortune’. These were the tracks that spread far and wide on file sharing sites, SoundCloud and bootlegged CD’s and in a time before Spotify and algorithms the band found a global audience of chillers who vibed their vision. Since then the band have released 5 more albums: ‘The Island’ (2011), ‘Space and Time’ (2012), ‘Peace & Quiet (2015), ‘Sunrise and Set’ (2019 and ‘Visions’ (2022). They also released a remastered live recording from their 2019 tour of Europe called ‘Live Near Amsterdam’ (2020). They have collaborated with various artists including WILLOW on her track 'Flowers ’ (2014, Roc Nation) and their sound draws from the musical stylings of J Dilla, Madlib, Frank Zappa and many more. They blend analogue production, lo-fi beats, synthesis, experimental effects and eclectic samples from nature and pop culture whilst featuring local artists like Haitch Music, Roman MC and Gareth Mewes (from Cigány Weaver). Today they still continue their experiments in sound, so stay tuned for more!
