Pronounced “Young-Fame”, HipHop/ R&B artist Yongefame has long considered music an important part of his identity. Raised in Toronto, Canada (The 6ix), Yongefame attributes his hometown as a major influence on his stage name, “Yonge” which was inspired by Yonge Street & “Fame” which was inspired through the help of a name generator. Born in 2000 in Toronto, Canada as Ishmael Odell Matthias, Yongefame started recording at the age of 17; the singer, songwriter, and rapper’s first recording experience was at his friend’s studio. He initially made music as a coping mechanism to help deal with his depression, then later decided to take his music career seriously. Yongefame was highly influenced by R&B and Hip Hop artist such as 6LACK, Drake, Juice Wrld, XXXTENTACION, and taught himself to record, mix and produce at the age of 20. His single “Relocate”, “Steam”, and Digits have been played on Toronto’s radio stations, such as 93.5fm (Made in Toronto Takeover).
