Biography

Beatriz Azevedo is a Brazilian poet, singer and songwriter. Daughter of a pianist and architect, from childhood she experimented all the arts. Now lives in New York as a Visiting Scholar at New York University's Tisch Arts. She holds a PhD in Performing Arts, a Master's in Literature; studied music at Mannes College of Music in NY and dramaturgy at Sala Beckett in Barcelona. 2022 marks the release of singles and album CLARICE CLARÃO created in partnership with Moreno Veloso. The album was born from the tribute to Clarice Lispector's 100th birthday, and features Maria Bethânia, cello by Jaques Morelenbaum and percussion by Marcelo Costa. Beatriz Azevedo's discography includes the albums A.G.O.R.A, AntroPOPhagia live in New York, Alegria, and Bum Bum do Poet. Her musical compositions were sung by Adriana Calcanhotto, Matheus Nachtergaele, Moreno Veloso, Tom Zé, Zelia Duncan and Zé Celso. She wrote the books Abracadabra, Antropofagia Palimpsesto Selvagem, Idade da Pedra, Modernismos 1922-2022 by Cia das Letras, Antropofagias: a manifest book! by Peter Lang Berlin, Acabou Chorare alongside with Caetano Veloso, Hermano Vianna, etc. Performed at the Lincoln Center and the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), in NY, Womex Spain, Nublu Jazz Festival NY, CMJ Music Marathon & Film Festival NY, Femmes du Monde Paris, Mirada Festival Ibero-Americano Brazil, Popkomm Festival Berlin, Art Anthropophagie Aujourd'hui, FLIP, Verizon Music Festival NY. https://www.beatrizazevedo.com/
