Cairo Liberation Front (CLF) is the eclectic musical vehicle of producers Joep Schmitz and Yannick Verhoeven. Two geeky, somewhat naive Dutch devotees of Egyptian electro-cha3bi, that blossomed into an infectious musical exchange between artists from both the Middle East and Western Europe. Since their genesis, CLF’s rousing DJ sets and headstrong punk rock ethos earned them worldwide recognition, most notably from The Guardian, the New York Times. Their love for electro-cha3bi was the root of their own journey. The duo became inspired to create music themselves. The first result is Nymphaea Caerulea, a clash of CLF’s oblique Middle-Eastern-inspired sonics and the psychedelic jams of Al Lover. Besides their effort in the studio their live shows caught on quickly as well, with electrifying sets at festivals like Amsterdam Dance Event, Best Kept Secret & Dour. CLF had to reassess how to present their giddy quest to spread cutting-edge Middle-Eastern sounds to audiences around the world. To materialize this ideal further they initiated, EURABIA, a self-curated club night inviting groundbreaking artists from all over the Middle-East. That burst of creative energy didn’t stop there. In October 2018 CLF release Eurabia Vol. 1, bringing the collective’s DIY-ethos full circle: wielding music as both a forward-looking communal movement and a celebration of individual freedom. The record introduces a unique collaborative approach to modern-day Middle-Eastern electronic dance music.
