Biography

Billy Buss is an award-winning trumpet player, composer/producer and educator originally from Berkeley, California, now living in Boston. Billy received his BA in Professional Music from the Berklee College of Music ('09) and graduated with a Masters in Music from the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz Performance ('11). During his rigorous tenure there, he studied composition, improvisation and music theory with the likes of Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, Jimmy Heath, Terence Blanchard, Jack DeJohnette, among others. Billy has received numerous prestigious awards from DownBeat Magazine, The National Foundation for the Advancement in the Arts (NFAA) and The White House. In 2014, he was awarded 2nd Place at the prestigious Thelonious Monk Institute International Competition for Trumpet, and since maintains a busy performing and teaching schedule throughout the United States and Internationally. You can find Buss performing with his own band, B-Squared Jazz Productions, or as a member of Kahootz Entertainment (K2), Steve Memmelo and The Classic Yellow, Contemporary Jazz Artist @Jesse Fischer, Mando-Pop sensation Yen-J, Pop group Terror Jr, Mexican Rock Band Sonex and a host of others. These collaborations range from Hip-Hop and Pop to Classical and Jazz. Newly appointed as Faculty of Brass at the prestigious Berklee College of Music, Buss also serves as Jazz Brass and Ensemble Faculty at the NEC Preparatory School as well as the Berklee 5-Week Program. He is an ASCAP artist. <br>
