Biography

Jörg Strodthoff (1959-2013) was a distinguished German organist and conductor, specialising in the works of Max Reger and Johann Sebastian Bach. He studied at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media, where his teachers included Ulrich Bremsteller (organ) and Martin Dörrie (piano). He later taught harmony and counterpoint at several universities and music colleges. From 1988 until his untimely death in 2013, he held the post of organist and choirmaster at the Auenkirche in Berlin-Wilmersdorf, as well as regularly playing the organ at Berlin Cathedral. He recorded a number of solo albums for labels such as JUBALmusic and Motette, and played the organ for recordings featuring the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin and the Rundfunkchor Berlin under Simon Halsey. In recognition of his musical achievements, he was awarded the honorary title of “Kirchenmusikdirektor” in 2008.
