JAWARI, a multi-disciplinary collective, was founded by London-based sitarist Tommy Khosla. Core members of the collective include Latin Grammy awardee and Aterciopelados (Europe) member Gregorio Merchan on percussion, Taylor J. Frost on guitar, Billie Sophoclides on saxophone and Nashville's first Youth Poet Laureate Lagnajita Mukhopadhyay. Drawing on the eclectic musical and interdisciplinary backgrounds of its members and collaborators with an emphasis on the Indian Classical tradition, JAWARI is cultivating a distinct identity within the global jazz scene. Their most recent collaboration with Yijia formed their first single and music video "or else, wandering 千" which drew inspiration from the traditional Chinese piece 酒狂, and features poetry by Lagnajita Mukhopadhyay. It is a taster of what's to come with JAWARI's highly anticipated debut LP, ROAD RASA, which will be released later this year.
