Biography

With her unorthodox flows & scathing lyricism, Riverside, CA rapper Hook’s signature sound is unmistakable. Boasting a fierce bravado, her razor-sharp bars are paired w/ a diverse beat selection, resulting in an indefinable blend of melodic trap, uptempo hyphy & woozy gfunk. Hook grew up around hip-hop, with a step father who would encourage her to study his favorite rappers & a biological father who was a rapper himself. She started making music as she performed in various R&B girl groups, later beginning to rap. Known for her uncanny ability to write choruses, she eventually nicknamed herself Hook. She began releasing tracks in 2017, sporadically issuing singles up until her “Hook” mixtape. Featuring “90” the mixtape achieved local success in LA, catching the attention of producer Nedarb. In 2019, the two came together for her debut album “Bully” a taunting, schoolyard-themed project which features rappers AzChike, Big Baby Scumbag, Bootychaaain & Lil House Phone. Over West Coast infused production, Hook’s “whisper-scream” flow & blindsiding bars earned her critical acclaim. She quickly followed “Bully” w/ her EP “I Love You, Hook” displaying her softer side while still maintaining her bravado. At the top of 2020, Hook released her second collaborative album w/ Nedarb, “Crashed My Car.” Centered around the traumatic experience of a car crash, the project features Zack Fox, Almighty Suspect & Leardo as Hook returns to her antagonistic flows and brazen lyricism. -Jack Angell
