Biography

If you were lucky enough to see Andrew Wiedmann live in Dub Kitchen, Zach Chasnoff and Chris Williamson in The Spiders (STL), or Darren Owens in InLimbo(STL), Priests of the Black Forest, Calling Baldwin, or Midwest Avengers you would get Red Zero. Originally formed with DJ Innovation, and the prolific Jonezy (STL), ultimately the classic lineup became: Andy(songwriter, lead guitar), Chris(drums), Zach/Original Sin(songwriter/vox), and Darren/ AddVerb Superb (vox). That iteration of the band lived ‘in the pocket,’ blending dub, hip-hop, and punk into seamless grooves. Red Zero came into its own during the Occupy movement, only to succumb a few years later to the most inevitable of all possible band fates: fading into the scene’s memory and music history. But AddVerb Superb couldn’t let it go. For a few years, he tried to get the band’s lone album finished, but nothing felt cohesive, or right. Finally, he asked his West Coast homie, Doug Surreal to interpret “We Sing Songs,” however he saw fit, as long as the final version stayed true to the band’s original intent: "Riot/Ruckus/Riddim." The result of that effort lay before you now, with the full album due summer 2021. So..will Red Zero return to playing sets in a post-Covid world? Who knows? They will, however exist as a cornerstone and important moment at the intersection of citizen (the verb), protest music, and hip-hop. And maybe, just maybe...they’ll sing us some songs again, real soon.
