Biography

Jonathan Östlund received his MA in Composition at LTU, in Sweden, and has so far completed nearly 200 works, including many orchestral works and two violin concertos. His music is pioneered by top international artists such as: E. Steen-Nokleberg, A. Zagorinsky, W. Gatti, E. Brakhman, S. Grynyuk, M. Esnult, Y. Revich, A. Smietana, and Quatuor Enesco. His albums: 'Lunaris', 'Voyages', 'Mistral', 'Imago' & 'Elysian' keep receiving critical acclaim, and place him among the most exciting and prolific contemporary composers. His 2024 album 'Reveries' represents discs ten & eleven of his music. After CD-releases, publications and performances in the U.K., France and Romania throughout 2010 & 2011 with the LSP, he won the Public's Choice Award for his Cello Sonata at the Oslo Grieg Festival in 2012, and was awarded 1st Prize in the LSO’s Composers’ Composition. Various premieres followed in 2013 in U.K. and France. In 2014, Cadogan Hall staged his ‘Lumières’ programme, featuring ten of his chamber works, his Cello Sonata received a Russian premiere, and he won the 2015 IBLA Grand Prize for his orchestral work 'Nocturnia'. His music has been premiered and recorded in Austria, Belarus, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Kosovo, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Romania, Russia, U.K., and U.S. His second Violin Concerto (featured on 'Reveries') and ‘Pastorale’, for soprano, chorus & orchestra, recently received their WP.
