John Roy was in San Diego when it all shut down in 2020, and his live event production company came to a standstill. After exhausting his movie queue and taking in his fill of bleak news, he started creating tunes with midi instruments, his saxes, voice and percussion.. He reached out to friends near and far, (including his musical brother, Kevin Hewitt, organ, keys, guitar) They also recorded from the confines of their own isolated spaces.. Anyone with internet and an audio interface was able to contribute worldwide. This would've been impossible just a few years before. By the end of 2020, John had an LP ready for newly formed label, Mixed Tape Records (Las Vegas). He recorded a covers album and had an EP with Badasonic (Belgium) ,singles with Liquidator (Spain) , an ep with Grover/Jumpup Records (Berlin/Chicago) and Steadybeat (Los Angeles). In 2022 he formed a label , Escape Hatch Records, With Mike Buchmiller. Now there are more releases on the horizon in 2023 and beyond!
