Biography

Bastian Stein started studying classical trumpet aged 15 at the University for Classical Music in Vienna. He released his debut album "Grounded“ with the German label Double Moon Records in 2012. In 2013, "Bastian Stein Group" Stein released his second album "Diegesis“ with Pirouet Records. In 2013, Bastian moved to Cologne in Germany where he formed his new quartet featuring Johannes Enders (tenor saxophone), Phil Donkin (double bass) and James Maddren (drums). In 2016 this quartet released "Viktor“ with Pirouet Records. In 2020 he release his first Trio Album (feat. Phil Donkin and James Maddren) under the name "The Eel's Trip" and also started a collaboration with the Belgium Hathor Consort and released the Album "Aries Point" with the Belgium Label "Outnote Records". Among many other projects as a Sideman, he also works freelance with all the different Radio Big Bands in Germany. From 2016-2022 Bastian has been teaching Jazz Trumpet at the University of Stuttgart. He's a Jazz Professor at the Jazz Institute Berlin since 2022.
