Biography

Anna Kühlein is a passionate film music composer. Her work is characterized by her ability to deeply empathize with a wide variety of stories: in the feature film sector in the genres of drama, social and socio-critical, arthouse, thriller, science fiction, historical as well as the diverse world of various documentaries. She works with a variety of musical genres and instruments, using classical and acoustic instruments as well as synthetic sounds such as synthesizers. She plays with breaking listening habits and likes to leave familiar genres behind, experimenting with unfamiliar combinations, field recordings and unusual sounds - all of which make up her musical DNA.  “(…) incredibly talented and all around amazing (...). It is always such a joy to work with Anna as she adds such a thick and meaningful layer of music to the work we do on set and in the editing suite." - Jan-Peter Horstmann, director She has received several nominations in the “Best Film Music” category at the Max Ophüls Preis film festival and was awarded the German Film Music Prize for “Best Young Talent”. "This year's Young Talent Award was given to the film composer Anna Kühlein, who developed her own musical language at a young age, enriched with wit and originality, which ultimately won over the jury. Alexander Thies (IAMA, NFP) and Sebastian Mönch (Steinberg) praised the extraordinary talent of the young composer in their laudatory speech." - German Filmscore Award www.annakuehlein.com
