Biography

Constantly on the move in search of new experiences and inspiration, Jonny Nash has spent a lifetime traversing the globe. His continuing musical journey has been similarly winding and nomadic, with early forays into cosmic disco leading to deeper excursions inspired by his love of enveloping soundscapes and the sonic potential of the humble guitar. Today, Nash is widely regarded as one of the most distinctive musical voices on the ambient and new age scene. A relocation to Amsterdam in 2016 coincided with the launch of his label, Melody As Truth. A run of solo records alongside collaborations with likeminded soul Suzanne Kraft set out the mission statement and cemented the sound of Nash’s contemplative, spacious yet melodic style. Combining elements of washed-out guitar textures, e-bow and electronics, Nash emerged as one of the key artists in the new wave of ambient music. This was further cemented through his work as part of Gaussian Curve, the ‘ambient super-group’ he formed alongside ambient pioneer Gigi Masin and Dutch producer Young Marco. Gaussian Curve’s two albums, and especially debut set Clouds, are now considered classics of the genre. Following the release of his Make A Wilderness album on highly acclaimed Dutch imprint Music From Memory, he undertook a period of collaboration that included forays into folk and acoustic music. Most notable were the 2020 album Poe, with Indonesia Tarawangsa player Teguh Permana.
