Mattias Lies Breathes New Life into Edith Södergran's Poetry with Captivating Music. The Finnish-Swedish poet Edith Södergran died 100 years ago and yet she is today more relevant than ever. Singer-songwriter Mattias Lies, another Finnish-Swede, pays tribute to the feminist icon through his new album “Rösten från det Karelska Näset” ("The Voice from the Karelian Isthmus"). Edith Södergran, known for her revolutionary and visionary poetry, is a feminist literary icon in Scandinavia. Her charismatic poetry has resonated with readers for generations. Now, with Mattias Lies' interpretation, her words come to life in a whole new way. These are blue-white-and-yellow* songs, musically appropriate to the early 20th century. Mattias explains: "What she expresses in her lyrics, I have tried to express in music. Edith Södergran and I share an outward longing for life, an inward brooding and a pantheistically tinged melancholy.” Edith's early passing is a reminder that we need to cherish that which we care about. In the aftermath of the pandemic, with ongoing wars, and for those who live in the shadows of society, counterbalance is needed - such as Edith's poetry; such as Mattias' music. *blue-white-and-yellow is a synonym to the flag of the Swedish-Finnish people. mattiaslies.com facebook.com/TheTrueLies instagram.com/mattiaslies youtube.com/mattiaslies
