For LOAM’s junior album, Lilac, they decided to explore all of the heaviest parts of living with undiagnosed mental illness. The album opens in a derealized state, almost in a stasis, with the eerily self-explanatory track, “Is This The Best That It’ll Ever Get.” Lilac describes a concept of struggle through dense trap, hip hop and pop, fluid synths, and thick vocal effects. “Dead Again" features Triple Crown Records' HOLY FAWN, who blends colorful analog textures and screaming bass to LOAM's gentle but exploratory ballad, bringing the album's struggle to an end. LOAM is the collaboration between Jon Ingram (Glass Rabbits) and Austin Harshman (Emby Alexander, Lane Lines), who use the process of sending music files back and forth between Seattle and Phoenix, to bring the cross-country music project to harmonious unity. With endings, come new beginnings. Lilac closes its record of the past year, living in the thick of illness.
