A first-generation Russian-Canadian, mason rex was born in Canada as an illegal immigrant, before his family got deported when he was less than two years old. After traveling back to Russia and deciding against settling there, his parents eventually moved to Mexico for a handful of years, before being able to legally return to Canada. mason rex would go on to develop a keen ear for music at a very early age, starting to play the piano at 12 years old, and went on to produce electronic music on FL Studio at 15. Initially inspired by dance music at the time, he signed to a local electronic music label a year later, and eventually pivoted into hip-hop and rap, landing music production credits with legendary artists such as CyHi the Prince, Tech N9ne, Merkules and many more.
