Biography

March 1st 2017 sees the release of 'Driven by Daylight', the first solo outing of Evert Z. After ten years of being an in demand session guitarist in the Netherlands, as well as creating a successful YouTube channel, he thinks the time is right for a new step. "Not many people know this, but releasing my own instrumental EP had been on my bucket list for years," says Evert Z (real name: Evert Zeevalkink) on the eve of the release of 'Driven by Daylight'. A veteran of the Dutch music scene, Zeevalkink worked as a session guitarist and producer with a variety of famous Dutch artists over the past ten years, among them Tim Akkerman, Ed Struijlaart, The New Shining, Ilse DeLange and Dotan. The past few years however, he has been busy outside of session work as well, steadily building a worldwide audience through his guitar-looping videos on YouTube – which have amassed over 1,6 million views as of writing. Though the guitar is the most important melodic instrument on all songs, they stay far away from the virtuoso guitar genre that rose to fame in the Eighties. The use of many elements from electronic music and a layered production saw to that. Zeevalkink: "I wanted to create music that was driven by melody, like the songs of my favorite singer-songwriters. And I wanted to create a production that has a cinematic quality, the kind that takes you on a journey when you put your headphones on." He smiles. "If I've achieved that last part, I'm a happy man!"
