Oakland rapper Bo Jack released his first streaming project Service Talk through Empire distribution in 2013 under the name Squidy Bo. He has since released several albums including Tree Life, and Tree Life 2, but has returned with a new album titled Pack Talk. Bo Jack was born in Oakland, but mostly raised in West Oakland and Richmond. As a kid he studied piano and played the drums in church. He first started recording and producing music after he graduated from high school, but then moved to Kansas to play football in college. Before he could start his senior year of college, he caught a case for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. After serving a 15-month sentence he returned home to the Bay. Being from the home of the Black Panther Party inspired Bo Jack to be involved in his community; he is actively involved with his local NAACP chapter. This social awareness comes through in his music. With a sound and lyrical content that is a mix of Wiz Khalifa and Meek Mill, Pack Talk takes listeners inside cannabis culture with raw, street conscious lyrics that give an in-depth look at what life is like around him. Recorded in 2020 during the Coronavirus outbreak, Bo Jack talks about how the industry, and himself were affected by the pandemic.
