kSaya or साया, translates to shadow; and its characteristics is how Shantanu Gursal has meticulously carved out his alias. Taking inspirations from underground genres like Drum & Bass, UK Garage, Breaks, along with Techno and Deep House, and infusing it with South-east Asian music coupled with his hyper-clean production style, kSaya encapsulates classical Indian elements with modern-day Bass music. kSaya’s first release came in early 2020 in the form of ‘Todi’. ‘Todi’ also made it to the Beatport Top 100 Deep House Charts, which is a testament to the carefully constructed expedition kSaya took his listeners on, through the tune. After the release of ‘Existence’, a gritty Techno roller, and by the end of 2020, kSaya delivered ‘Ae Ri Sakhi’ with Prasad and Pooja Gaitonde on percussion and vocal duties. Ae Ri Sakhi’ captivated the Asian Underground fraternity and the tune spent several weeks on Spotify’s Raga-Lounge playlist while crossing 100k plays on all platforms and receiving radio plays from all four corners of India. kSaya spent the end of 2020 and the start of 2021 refining his sounds and finally in May 2021, he self-released a sweltering Garage edit of a popular Bollywood hit song, ‘Jee Karda’ from Singh is King. The edit was picked numerous pirate stations for radio plays. As kSaya turns onto a new chapter with his kSaya motif, expect the producer to dish out more soul-stirring journeys while plucking influences from the Asian Underground.
