Biography

Mandy Lagan with Origins is set to release her 5th recording, The Paul Simon Project. It features some of Canada’s finest, award winning jazz musicians performing their own unique arrangements of Paul Simon songs. The band members are Ewen Farncombe, Ted Quinlan, Jim Vivian, Blair Mackay, Andrew Downing, Kevin Turcotte and Matt Lagan. Ms. Lagan has been performing, composing and recording since 1989. She settled in Toronto in 1990 to pursue her band project, exploring writing and arranging within the genre of pop and Jazz standards. In 2002 she released her first CD, I Thought About You, a collection of jazz standards, one Joni Mitchell song and two originals. In 2003 she released her second CD,  You See Me, a selection of five jazz standards and five originals. In 2007 she released her third CD, Verses, a collection of Robert Louis Stevenson’s poetry which she collaboratively set to music with David Occhipinti, Andrew Downing, Carl Horton, Joe Lagan and Nancy Walker. This project awarded Mandy grants from both The Canada Council for the Arts and The Ontario Arts Council. Mandy’s 4th recording brought her full circle, back to the music of Joni Mitchell. Working with her band, ORIGINS, she developed extraordinary, unique arrangements of some of her favourite songs. “The Joni Book” was released October 10, 2018 at The Lula Lounge in Toronto.
