Biography

Andrei Samsonov is an influential Russian producer, composer, and musician. Classically trained in Moscow’s Gnessin School of Music and London’s Royal College of Music, Andrei immersed himself in the European music scene of the late 80s, working with Marc Almond, Nick Cave, Blixa Bargeld, Bob Geldof, and Laibach. After his return to Russia, Andrei went on to produce groundbreaking records for Russia’s top names in the music industry including rockers, Aquarium, Zemfira, Piknik, Vyacheslav Butusov, Tequilajazzz, Alai Oli; rappers Kasta & Assai; pop stars like Manizha & Lyudmila Zykina; ethnic music of Huun-Huur-Tu; classics like Rastrelli Cello Quartett, Terem-Quartet, and Giora Feidman, and many others, across various genres and styles. Samsonov is a longtime collaborator of the director Ivan Vyrypaev, providing the musical dimension to Vyrypaev’s genius in theater and cinema. His soundtrack writing and production work include collaborations with the likes of Clive Gordon, John Maguire, Sergei Debizhev, and Renata Litvinova. He was nominated for Nika Award as the composer and producer, and was awarded the Kinotavr Award for the best musical score to Vyrypayev’s “Kislorod.” His first solo album “Void In” was released in 1997 on the legendary MUTE Records in London, and since then Andrei has been prolific in producing avant-garde experimental music, always pushing the boundaries of sound along the tunnels of his imagination.
