Biography

Camerata Nordica is known as Sweden’s leading chamber orchestra. It was founded in 1974 as the regional orchestra of Kalmar in the south east of Sweden. Performing standing up, without conductor, and sometimes without scores the ensemble projects an energy and unanimity of musical purpose that has become, together with a creative musical programming, part of its distinctive identity. Camerata Nordica is composed of permanent players and international members selected out of worldwide chamber music ensembles or orchestras and prize winners of international competitions. Throughout the years Camerata Nordica has had the pleasure to perform regularly with leaders such as, Norbert Brainin, Levon Chilingirian, Philippe Graffin, Giovanni Guzzo, Franz Helmerson, Barnabas Kelemen, Ernst Kovacic, Pekka Kuusisto, Josef Suk, Terje Tønnesen, Ulf Wallin, Antje Weithaas etc. Besides frequent tours in Sweden, Camerata Nordica has made numerous appearances throughout Europe and in other parts of the world. The orchestra has returned to South America, USA and Canada multiple times where they received highest accolades from the audience and the press. In 2013 Camerata Nordica also made its debut at the BBC Proms. Through a strong collaboration with the label BIS, Camerata Nordica produced numerous recordings. No less than three has been nominated for the Grammis Awards. The orchestra also regularly appears on the radio and television.
