Biography

Still….. Malaya Blue’s new recording re-affirms her position as one of UK Blues premier vocalists and songwriters. Previous album Heartsick unlocked the door and now she’s kicking it open! It’s been an enormous privilege to collaborate with 3 times Grammy winning producer and writer Dennis Walker (Robert Cray, BB King, Bettye LaVette) and to be the first ever UK artist to do so. Upon hearing Heartsick Dennis e.mailed me to say, ‘’My first impression? What a voice. Wow! I get the feeling she’s got so much talent she’s about to burst at the seams.’’ Along the way Richard Cousins, himself a 5 times Grammy winner for his work with Robert Cray gave us the previously unrecorded Still, originally intended for a RC album but a perfect fit for Malaya. And what a stunning performance she gives us, further enhanced by Richard himself adding his distinctive bass playing. It was a pleasure and a huge honour working with all of the above but especially Dennis who spent countless hours mentoring the project and giving us the benefit of his knowledge and experience. Having amassed the demos together we hand-picked the musicians best suited for the compositions from the cream of the UK blues scene, and over 5 days in the studio, with the totally unflappable Sotos at the controls, the songs exploded into life! This album is fresh, contemporary and classy, proving Malaya Blue is an artist of the very highest quality whose star is in the ascendancy……..still. Steve Yourglivch.
