Raised in a small town outside of Nottingham, MXL began his musical journey as a sound engineer in an attic studio in 2006, recording artists over commercial instrumentals. He moved into production a couple of years later, gaining notoriety for his arrangements and ability to work outside of the box. Inspired by genres, including 80’s synth pop, 90’s r'n'b and hip hop, MXL blurs the lines of dark, atmospheric minimalism, fused with upbeat vibes. Following the recording and co-production of two mixtapes, ‘Urban Poetry Vol:1’ (2008) and ‘Reality is Realism’ (2009), MXL attended Confetti Institute of Creative Technologies from 2010-2012, studying music production. Whilst there he gained the attention of ‘Nusic’s’ front man and former Trent FM DJ, Mark Del, who gave him an internship, opening the door to more opportunities in the music industry. In July 2012, he met Nottingham artist Lex, with whom he recorded and co-produced a mixtape titled, ‘Home Truths’. The release placed MXL on the map as one of the East Midlands most established producers, followed with a cluster of magazine reviews and radio interviews. In 2013 MXL embarked on his second project with Lex. The project was to feature some of the UK’s most respected hip hop artists, such as Britizen Kane, Rame and Smedz. It was unfortunately put on hold due to family issues and aside from a few co-production credits and some behind the scenes work, he would not make an official return to music until the summer of 2022.
