Mezzo-soprano sanjuanera Laura Virella was hailed by the LA Times as “a capable singer and actor, compelling on stage,” and has been described by critics as having a "bright, luminescent mezzo," "silky tone," and "rich, attractive, plush sound." In opera, she's performed internationally on stages including Carnegie Hall, Long Beach Opera, Festival de Santa Fiorentina, Theater Rudolstadt, Wolf Trap Opera, Teatro de la Ópera, and the New York Opera Fest. An avid storyteller and champion of obscure, contemporary and chamber repertoire, she's also appeared with ArtsAhimsa, the Queens New Music Festival, and the Steinway Society of Puerto Rico, with recital programming that often weaves in Puerto Rican repertoire. American soprano Joanna Bruno remarked after an operatic gala, “Laura has a gift that cannot be taught. Beyond the magnificent colors she gifts us with her voice, her mastery of language and skill of communication, painting each word, each phrase, with its unique shape and emphasis… It is a gift that must be shared with the world. An exquisite artist.” After a performance of Frauenliebe und -leben, soprano Susan Mardinly agreed, "Laura has a wonderfully trained voice, a beautiful presence, superb musicianship, and really good diction. But it was her soulful interpretation that was so stunning it made me hang on every word, every nuance." AL MENOS CANTOS marks her debut in the recording world. More at www.lauravirella.com.
