Gaining in massive popularity and putting his staple on the Caribbean music scene as the rap sensation of the year on the ABC islands and the Netherlands is the Curaçaoan rap artist Dongo. Born Rachendrick Estanista (1988) in Curaçao, the origin of his artist name lies with a cartoon show his brother used to watch as a kid. It was the name of one of the show’s characters and for some unknown reason his brother bestowed it upon him as a nickname and so it stuck and became his moniker. He started making music at the age of 16, recording mp3s for personal pleasure and distributing them at his leisure, but only started recording professionally in 2010 at the age of 22. This was when he released his first album; ‘Dongo Introduction’. After that he released the mixtape ‘No Puya Mixtape’ in 2014. That year he also released on of his biggest single ‘Hodedo’, which became a street anthem played everywhere on the islands and in the Dutch Caribbean communities in the Netherlands where he currently resides. Specializing in the music genre Bubbling Dembow, he seeks to paint a picture of every day occurrences in a way that is relatable to his listeners, on occasion bringing humor to the table. Among his aspirations as an artist is to collaborate with Curaçaoan rap great Mosta Man and expand into the Latin American market. His immediate plans for the future are to continue making good music and provide for his family
