Biography

With an eclectic backdrop of top notch musicality that blends parts hip-hop, jazz, soul and rock, JSWISS proves himself an astute storyteller as well, spewing messages of inspiration, faith and hope while also chronicling injustice, societal hypocrisy and more. To fans, he delivers a fresh and much needed, variant perspective to the hip hop landscape - uniquely coined "Awthentic". The talented MC is also a favorite collaborator of standout bands and musicians at the intersection of hip-hop, soul and jazz. Accomplished talents like Maurice “Mobetta” Brown, Ben Williams, Marcus Machado, Marcus Strickland, Nate Smith, Keyon Harrold, Nicholas Payton, E.J. Strickland, Daru Jones, Chris “Daddy” Dave, Mark Whitfield, and many more have astutely pegged JSWISS a lyricist who can effortlessly fall in where most MCs can’t. In 2022, JSWISS released a pair of collaborative projects, each produced by two accomplished and versatile multi-instrumentalists: "Bona Fide" with Michael Leonhart, and "Somebody's Gotta Do It" with Sly5thAve. The projects have appeared on WNYC, Vibe Magazine, BBC Radio 6 Music, KCRW, FIP Radio, and Spotify's "Orbit" and "Nu-Funk" playlists. Leonhart & JSWISS have taken "Bona Fide" to JAZZMI Festival in Milan, Italy, Marseille des Cinq Continents Festival in France, and NYC Winter Jazzfest, while "Somebody's Gotta Do It" spent 6 straight weeks among the top 10 hip-hop albums on the North American College and Community Radio Chart.
