Biography

Triana was a master of the boys choir at Toledo Cathedral in 1483. Approximately twenty compositions by Triana are extant including two sacred pieces in Spanish, not Latin (e.g. "Dinos, madre del donsel," and "Juysio fuerte sera dado"). The second piece was a Song of the Sibyl which is sung during Christmas Eve services in Spain. Triana also set secular songs concerning the amour of courtesan's. Many of these pieces have comparatively lively rhythms in the lower voices, and, a popular text which he set, has an imitative quality between the superius and the tenor scored an octave apart. ~ Keith Johnson, Rovi
