Biography

Lori Scacco is a composer and producer based in New York City. Her largely instrumental work is informed by minimalism yet takes on a lyrical exuberance not typically seen in the form, achieving intimacy through electronics and expansiveness through acoustic instrumentation. Her first solo album, Circles, released on Prefuse 73’s Eastern Developments in 2004, was written for solo piano and marked a pointed departure from her prior role as co-founder and guitarist of Seely, the first American band on renowned British imprint Too Pure. She went on to release two acclaimed albums built around the synthesizer, Desire Loop (Mysteries of the Deep, 2018) and The Order of Things (Longform Editions, 2021). Scacco's scores and site-specific installations span the worlds of art, film, classical dance, and performance, with a diverse group of collaborators, including choreographer Gemma Bond, media artists Jennifer & Kevin McCoy, and filmmaker Matt Wolf. Select commissions have been presented by Ambient Church (NY), Ballroom Marfa (TX), the Joyce Theater (NY), Kaatsbaan Cultural Park (NY), the Lancaster Museum of Art and History (CA), and MoMA PS1 (NY), as well as film festivals worldwide. Scacco has been an ensemble member of Savath & Savalas and Helado Negro, and is one half of psych-folk duo Storms with Eva Puyuelo (Savath + Savalas). She has remixed patten, Certain Creatures, Same Waves, and Leverage Models.
