Exciting, life of the party, and determined, these words are used to describe Obed-Edom also known as Derrell Lamont Porter. He is a proud native of Baltimore, Maryland, a devoted youngest of three siblings and talented young man. Things changed for Porter and his family in 1998, when Porter and his family moved to Virginia. “We were experiencing a new beginning” Porter responds as he refers to his childhood. By the age of 14, he began writing music; when he reached the age of 16, he expanded and became a Gospel Rapper. Porter helped form a gospel rap band, A.P.O.S.T.L.E. (Always Praising Our Savior to Live Eternally). Since the formation of the group, A.P.O.S.T.L.E., Porter has performed over 100s of shows. He played a vital role in the band where he wrote, engineered and produced the music. After a while, he started to perform under the stage name “Obed-Edom.” Obed-Edom means "Servant of God;" and in the Bible, Obed-Edom was very musically inclined.
