Biography

Jo Hook is a singer songwriter and musician from Kent. Jo writes quirky, intimate and close hitting songs, using her own personal life experience to inform the subject matter and content of her music. Highly influenced by the musicals she loved in her formative years, Jo delivers with humour and honesty. She draws you in. "Jo’s songs are heartfelt anthems to life, reflecting her vulnerability – including a song about being trapped in hospital. And another about a stranding in Medway mud. The songs move you and delight you in equal measure. “I will dance, I will try again” will uplift you. Her songs can stop you from feeling sorry for yourself" As a performer, Jo is wonderfully self-deprecating, and very funny. She is just as at home performing in Bavaria wearing full Lederhosen, Paris in a mini skirt, London in her grandfather’s jacket (too big) and at a kombucha and mead bar in Santa Fe in cowboy boots. Her songs , despite often being hard hitting, are lined with mischief both lyrically and musically. Jo makes music sound in the way she experiences her life, with use of repetition and interruption intermingled with beautiful accompaniment. Her latest album Shuttled Inspector Choirs brings together a stellar cast of musicians to create a stunning piece of work.
