The high of the 90s is long gone and any remnants have all but disappeared in the following two decades. What little that remains is post euphoria depression and a definite realization that the pessimism of the 80s has not been overcome, only suppressed. Those embers feed the fire that is the music and attitude Frankfurt’s duo, Babes of Enola Grey. Deborah Vision and Fabian van Castorp in tandem with cold synths, disillusioned melodies and a dirty brash sound, harken back to the traditions of wave, EBM and depro-punk that always reveals on the edge of fragility. Their music does not promise a new roaring twenties, yet a dark contradiction of that century old past. Its faces the gray epoch of what is to come head on and, still under these conditions, does not lack insurrectionist confidence.
