Nominated for a Sondeka East Africa 2023 Award for Best Live Act, Checkmate Mido is a household name in the alternative music and spoken word scene in Nairobi. Fusing rhyme and rhythms to tell compelling stories through music, his work has been featured on BBC Focus on Africa, Arts Hour and Music in Africa. He has shared the stage with Grammy award winners, The Soil as well as globally acclaimed HipHop artist Akua Naru. His critically acclaimed debut album FRQNCY was released in 2020 to great reception and reviews. He is a Goethe Talents 2023 Scholarship recipient after which he completed a well-received East African tour 2023 and is currently set to release his sophomore album ‘Ua’ in 2024.
