Biography

As him and he will tell you, "I was made to help people and make things." Producer and instrumentalist JoMá, known as Joe Thorp to his mother, draws from his diverse influences to build his own Psychedelic-Hip Hop-R&B-Soul-Funk music. Joe began exploring the unattended piano in his home while still being home-schooled as a child. Patterns, shapes, and numbers filled in the gaps until a guitar fell into his hands in rural Minnesota years later. Joe followed, carrying his guitar, as his family continued to move and shift around the United States through his schooling years. After graduating high school and a series of gap years, he ended up in a dorm room teaching himself to record and produce. While finishing his degree, Joe began running sound and engineering with a local production company which allowed him to further immerse himself in music and learn from other musicians around him. In 2021, he quit his job and moved to Baltimore Maryland to pursue music. Constantly exploring and experimenting, JoMá makes music that makes you feel like you're ridding shotgun in your best friend's spaceship on the way to a cookout.
