Biography

Bendik Baksaas is an electronic musician from Horten, Norway. His characteristic style of playful minimalism comprises warm ambient and functional techno. Strictly hardware-driven, with refined attention to detail, Baksaas enjoys the limitations and liberations of four-track cassette recording, Elektron devices, and his beloved Eurorack synth. His double album Duets, with Kristoffer Eikrem on trumpet, was granted the Oslo Prize as the album of the year 2018. Duets, released on the Oslo based label Mutual Intentions, has gained a following of listeners of ambient and pleasant experimental music. The music was featured in the film "Harajuku" (Eirik Svensson 2018). Til alt ute is a masterpiece that defined the combination of Norwegian poetry and electronic music. Together with Norway's most beloved performative poet Fredrik Høyer the 26 track mastodon of an album quickly built a cult following. Both the double vinyl Til alt ute: Måne / Til alt ute: Sol and the podcast Til alt ute: Æter was released on Dugnad rec in 2019. Baksaas is also working together with the traditional musician Helga Myhr from Hallingdal, recontextualizing ancient Norwegian melodies through the sampling of Hardanger fiddle and singing. The album Seine Sviv is the first chapter in this lifelong pursuit. Baksaas' work in electrifying Norwegian folk music is supported by Bugge Wesseltoft and released on his label OK World. - Kjetil Jerve, Dugnad rec
