Based in Osaka, Japan, Metome is the solo project of artist Takahiro Uchibori. Breaking into the scene in 2013 through Kansai-based events such as IdleMoments and INNIT. The next couple of years saw him engaged in a flurry of activity: in 2014 his album “Objet”-which would help reposition Osaka on the map as a hotspot for electronic music, showcasing his musicality and craftsmanship- was picked up by Seattle radio station KEXP 90.3 FM and chosen for Bandcamp’s top page for “New and Notable Records”. This led to a successful American tour the following year and to the subsequent release of the “Angel EP”. Over the course of his career, Metome has continued to redefine his sound, with his earlier work incorporating elements of funk, nu-jazz, and post-dubstep, lush with repitched vocals meticulously interspersed amongst warm, Rhodes chords and thick, fuzzy bass lines. His later work has seen him venture into the realms of left-of-center, experimental sound design, exploring new depths that seek to challenge our musical sensibilities while never forfeiting the attention to detail and complex understanding of melody that have helped secure his position as one of the promising new faces of electronic music in Japan.
