J. Powell is a guitar player, producer, and rapper from California. He has collaborated with artists from Baltimore, Chicago, Kansas, Los Angeles and more. He goes out of his way to not be placed in a box musically. He learned to play guitar right handed (even though he is a southpaw) dues to not having access to left handed instruments. He has grown up playing jam sessions with some long time friends which changed how he approaches music. He prefers to make new melodies and songs instead of playing covers. Through this, he has created his sound being inspired by artists such as Jack White, Omar Rodríguez-López, Jimi Hendrix, Queens of the Stone Age, The Roots, Tame Impala and many others. His most recent project Transitions 2 was recorded at Knockhouse Studios featuring LA artists such as @Euan Leslie, @Grace Kinter, @Anton Sushev, Brian Guthrie, and @KTTEDDY. Since then he has dropped the album @Sketches of Pain with Baltimore MC @dskillzharris and recently @Remember Who You Are in which he collaborated with @lenabrowne @vanessaacosta from @bootlegorchestra, @blaqkush, @jennifair and many others.
