Biography

Cut Copy is a GRAMMY® nominated, ARIA award-winning band that leads a trailblazing path between the worlds of alternative rock & dance music, with numerous marquee festival slots & over 1,000 sold-out headline shows spanning several continents. Initially a bedroom recording project of Dan Whitford, Cut Copy evolved into a full-fledged band with guitarist Tim Hoey, drummer Mitchell Scott & bassist Ben Browning. Their studio albums include "In Ghost Colours" – one of Pitchfork's best albums of '08 + in their top albums of the '00s, & "Zonoscope" which won two ARIA Awards & was nominated for a GRAMMY®. In '22, Cut Copy announced "Collected Works 2001-2011," a vinyl box set chronicling their first decade showcasing fearless experimentation between rock & dance music & explorations with dub, Afrobeat, 70s Southern California harmonies & more. Their latest album "Freeze, Melt" (2020) managed to simultaneously expand their sound while also refining it; While previous records explored peak-time hedonism, this is a soundtrack to a perfect gentle comedown. In addition to headlining massive sold-out shows, they owned prime slots at prestigious festivals like Coachella, Ultra, Lollapalooza, Primavera, Summer Sonic, & Big Day Out. DJing & mixes are also a big part of their identity – from the famed Fabric mix, "Fabriclive.29" to a Melbourne dance compilation, "Oceans Apart." Cut Copy’s songs have been licensed for tv, games, & adverts like FIFA, Chevrolet, Netflix, Amazon, & Levi’s.
