Hi, My name is Jesper Thorn and I am a composer, bassplayer and bandleader based out of Copenhagen, Denmark. My first album ‘Big Bodies of Water’ was released in 2016. It was a kind of manifest of my artistic vision of simplicity, space, and silence and the meeting between acoustic instruments and electronics. My second album ‘BOY’ (2020) was about looking inwards on my rather strained relationship with traditional masculinity after becoming a father to a son, and my new role for him. ‘BOY’ won me a Danish Music Award (Danish Grammy) as “Jazzcomposer of the year 2021”. My upcoming album ‘Dragør’ will be released the 29th of September 2023 on April Records. The first single from this album will be out May 19th and is entitled ‘Boy’ (not to be confused with my second album.) ‘Boy’ is for my son Elliot. On both ‘Big Bodies of Water’ and ‘BOY’ my band consisted of Marc Méan on piano and electronics and Tobias Wiklund on cornet. This time around the 3 of us are joined by Cecilie Strange on sax and Andreas Bernitt on violin and viola. I also have a very active career as a sideman in various projects and bands and have played with names such as Ralph Alessi, Palle Mikkelborg, Lars Jansson, Thomas Agergaard, Jørgen Leth, Søren Ulrik Thomsen & Det Glemte Kvarter, Jacob Karlzon, The Savage Rose, Katrine Madsen and many, many others. I am also very involved in different projects with modern flamenco dancer Selene Muñoz.
