Calling Mexico, the UK, USA and Australia home at some point in his life, Dan Villalobos’ eclectic flair was always inevitable. The synth-sprayed rhythms that now define his sound first erupted in 2014; his remix for Age of Giants’ debut single “Cold in the Water” and intricate take on MAXON’s “Birds” attained the international spotlight on The Burning Ear and Hype Machine. His tropical-disco rework of Robyn Sherwell's “Islander” enjoyed similar success in 2015—catching the attention of BBC Introducing Norfolk—while B-Side Project awarded Villalobos “Best Innovative Remix” for his take on Adrienne-O’s “Barcelona”. Presented by judge Estelle Rubio, the award recognised Villalobos for “bucking trends, creative individual style and non-conformism”. Indeed, interlaced textures from found sounds over progressive dance-ready grooves would become the norm. With the release of Orbits—his debut 2-track EP in 2016—Villalobos spread his wings further, co-writing with enigmatic producer AAA+ on “Weightless” and later co-produced MAXON's debut EP New World which included the acclaimed “Solid Gold”. Since then, collaborations with Leaone, Essie Holt, Ginny Dix and Like Bear. Twenty twenty saw Villalobos join the roster on Drexler’s Handles (Remixed), lending a delicate sensibility on “Ivory Tape”. Dan Villalobos is currently working on new music while recovering from Long COVID.
