Big Stir Records invites you to get to know RICHARD ÖHRN of Uppsala, Sweden. You've heard Richard before, in the ringing guitar lines and harmonies of indie pop darlings IN DEED. Residents of Sweden might know him from the dedicated '60's throwback combo Magic II or as the frequent accompanist for actress/singer Regina Lund. There's been his recent debut – on drums, no less – as part of The Greeting onstage in the UK and Sweden. And the miraculous comeback of In Deed with the hit album EVEREST on Big Stir in 2018 was just the start of an ongoing resurgence, bringing new tunes your way in 2023 and keeping Öhrn's talents well-displayed as a prime mover with one of the country's most captivating bands. What few have known, though, is that for the past decade, in a self-made studio in the countryside outside Uppsala, Richard has been quietly crafting a masterpiece of his own. Armed with an arsenal of guitars (including his trademark Burns electric 12-string) and a thrift store piano he restored himself, Öhrn's been busy during his downtime testing his skills at drumming and recording. And most importantly, he's written a diverse clutch of fine, melodic songs, unified by personal but completely relatable themes and a sonic approach that evokes the classic feel of the '60s, with a touch of the postpunk and power pop drive that fuels In Deed. The result is the revelatory and richly melodic SOUNDS IN ENGLISH, due this November on Big Stir Records.
