Misty Theisen is a multifaceted musician based in western North Carolina where she is professor of woodwinds/music education at Mars Hill University. Performing recitals, concertizing, and conducting clinics across the United States, Theisen is an active flutist. She has appeared regularly with the Mobile Symphony Orchestra, Meridian Symphony Orchestra, the Sinfonia Gulf Coast, and the Hendersonville Symphony Orchestra. As featured soloist with orchestra or wind ensemble, her performances include concerti by Cimarosa, Doppler, Chaminade, Mozart, and Michael Young. A tireless advocate of contemporary classical music, Theisen has given the world premiere of several compositions commissioned by and dedicated to her. With her ensemble FUJIN she has toured throughout the country, lectured at the 2015 Mid-South Flute Festival, and performed at the 2020 North American Saxophone Alliance Conference. In addition to flute and piccolo, Theisen is a proficient performer on all clarinets, saxophones, and oboe. She utilizes these skills in her steady work as an orchestral musician for several regional theater companies . Misty Theisen received degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi in Music Education (BMEd) and Flute Performance (MM) where she studied with Sharon Lebsack. She has also taken lessons from and participated in master classes with renowned soloists Sir James Galway, Paul Edmund Davies, and Wissam Boustany.
