Morlaye was a performer on the lute as well as a composer and music editor. He also played the guitar and viol and transcribed and composed works for the former instrument. Though he was involved in a number of enterpises he printed works for his teacher, Ripa, including intablatures for the spinet and guitar. Fezandat stood the costs of printing 1200 copies of music as long as Morlaye agreed to redact and correct the proofs before printing. Together they printed three guitar books, four lute books and two collections of four part psalms. Morlaye was lauded, musically, for his voice and playing ability. The genres of his intablatures included fantasies, transcripted chansons, frottolas, madrigals and motets. Other works included the transcription of a number of dance types. ~ Keith Johnson, Rovi
