Nigel Westlake's career in music spans 5 decades. He studied the clarinet with his father Donald Westlake and left school early to pursue a performance career in music. His film credits include the feature films Blueback (2023 winner / APRA Best Soundtrack award), Ali's Wedding, Paper Planes, Miss Potter, Babe, Babe: Pig in the City, Children of the Revolution, and The Nugget, plus the Imax films Antarctica, The Edge, Imagine, Solarmax and numerous others. His television credits include documentaries, telemovies, news themes and station idents. His compositions have earned numerous accolades, including 2 ARIA awards, the Gold Medal at the New York International Radio Festival and 16 APRA awards in the screen & art music categories. He is a two time winner of the prestigious Paul Lowin Orchestral prize and holds an honorary Doctorate in Music, awarded by the University of New South Wales in 2012. In 2020 he was awarded the Albert H Maggs Composition Award by the University of Melbourne for his 3rd String quartet “Sacred Sky” and in 2022 was awarded the APRA Distinguished Services to the Australian Screen. He has conducted all the major symphony orchestras in Australia in performances and recordings of his own works, and in 2016 made his US conducting debut at the Lincoln Centre with the New York Philharmonic and his European debut with the RTE Symphony at the National Concert Hall in Dublin in 2018. He is represented by Maggie Rodford (Air Edel, London).
